Code & Architecture Audits | Anexia Digital Engineering
Know where your software stands.
Our Senior Engineers assess your code and architecture, including AI-generated applications. You receive a clear picture of quality, technical risks and the next improvements worth making.
Four perspectives on software quality.
We agree the scope with your team and combine automated analysis with manual reviews. Findings are assessed in the context of your application, its users and its business rules.

Architecture & integration
Module boundaries, interfaces and architectural decisions are reviewed against your requirements, expected load and existing systems.

Code & maintainability
Readability, duplication, dependencies and technical debt. We examine whether the implementation remains understandable and maintainable, including code produced with AI.

Security & tests
We assess security findings, dependency risks and the strength of your tests. Passing tests are checked against business rules and relevant failure cases.

AI workflow & human reviews
We examine how AI receives context, which tools it can use and where people review and approve results. Responsibilities and unresolved findings become visible.
A clear assessment. A practical improvement plan.
We start with a scope discussion and access to the agreed project materials. Automated analysis and Senior Engineering reviews lead to a documented assessment. In a findings workshop, we explain risks, priorities and recommended changes. You receive an audit report and a prioritised improvement plan; implementation support can follow.
Focusing a review on specific change and operational risks
Our offering is aimed at technical leads facing growing maintenance or scaling problems. For companies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, we plan the software architecture audit around the existing systems and the collaboration required.
In the architecture analysis, we select representative questions that the existing architecture has to answer. How much effort does a new interface take? Which parts fail together? Where is particularly sensitive data held? Scenarios like these connect structural observations with actual consequences. A mere comparison with a preferred architectural style would not be meaningful enough for this.
For the Architecture Assessment, we use existing documentation, selected code paths and conversations with the responsible teams. Contradictions between documented and actual behaviour are recorded visibly. In the architecture review, we distinguish between acute problems, medium-term limitations and justifiable compromises. Recommendations come with a rationale and an assessment of their dependencies. A complete rebuild is not concluded solely from the fact that other technical options exist. The conclusion shows which changes address which specific bottleneck and which evidence is still missing for a decision. In this way, the software architecture audit supports the prioritised further development of the existing application.
Scope of services for the architecture review
The agreed scope for the architecture analysis can include the following results: analysis report, dependency map, risk register, technical samples and action plan. For each significant result, we define what it serves, who reviews it and in what form it is handed over. This allows development, operations and procurement to assess the same service. Vague umbrella terms are replaced in the quote by specific work packages.
The Architecture Assessment also includes coordinating the necessary interfaces with your team. We clarify access, contact persons and available testing options before the affected implementation steps. Changes to the scope are described along with their effect on effort and sequence. This gives you a clear overview of delivered results, outstanding prerequisites and additional requests.
The key technical decision in the architecture review
The review connects code, runtime and organisational responsibility. A formally modern architecture pattern is not proof of quality in its own right. For the software architecture audit, we document the relevant assumptions and justify the chosen option. Significant alternatives are considered against the same business requirements. This makes later adjustments easier when load, data volume or organisational responsibility change.
A sound decision also takes maintainability and handover into account. In the architecture analysis, we examine which skills are available in house and what additional support is needed. Technical options are thus connected with a realistic operating model. The client can see which tasks will arise regularly after the project and which decisions remain with them.
What supports good decisions.

Clarity over hype. Architecture over haste.
Risks and acceptance in the software architecture audit
A complete rebuild can create avoidable migration risks if targeted interventions would already resolve the main bottleneck. We treat this point as a specific review question in the Architecture Assessment. A risk is linked to the affected process, its possible impact and a suitable measure. Where prerequisites are still missing, the statement explicitly remains open until the necessary investigation has taken place.
We test selected change cases, runtime paths and failure patterns against the documented architecture assumptions. For the architecture review, we record the initial situation, the tested configuration and the result. Acceptance relates to the agreed scope. Open limitations are documented visibly and assigned to a next step with clear ownership. This allows your team to distinguish between proven functionality, a deliberate decision and an assumption that has not yet been confirmed.
Project example as an illustrative scenario
The following scenario is an application example and not a customer reference. A SaaS product is to serve new customer groups, but even minor changes regularly affect many modules. In the architecture review, the review would be aligned with this specific development task. The team would trace representative changes and examine which dependencies actually create effort or risk. A general verdict on the technologies used would be too unspecific for this.
For the software architecture audit, existing documentation, selected areas of code and operational information would be compared with one another. A limited change proposal could show whether domain boundaries are clearly reflected in the code or whether several components carry the same responsibility. Findings would be distinguished by their proven effect. An unusual solution would not automatically be faulty; what would matter is whether it makes changes, tests or operations more difficult in concrete terms. Where information is missing, the review would openly state the limits of its conclusions.
The result of the architecture analysis would be a prioritised action report with justified alternatives. It would include traceable findings, their significance for the planned growth and suitable next steps. The recommendation could concern individual interfaces or tests without requiring a complete rebuild. The client would need to be able to see which improvement is necessary now, which will make sense later and which existing decisions, despite their age, still serve a valid purpose.
Our experience and our engineering approach
We combine custom software development with the technical tasks of introduction and further development. For the software architecture audit, we bring the perspectives of application, integration and operations together in a shared workflow. The business requirements remain connected to the technical decisions. You work with a defined scope of services and traceable results.
Our experience should be verifiable for your project in concrete terms. That is why, in the technical exchange, we explain how we investigate the relevant risks, which work results are planned and how your team can assess them. For the architecture analysis, we match the roles involved to the actual need. Available references are presented with their respective project and company context; confidential customer details are not used as general marketing claims.
Effort for the architecture analysis
Code volume, system access and the desired depth of investigation determine the effort; repository size alone is not a sufficient measure. We therefore calculate the architecture review on the basis of a defined scope and explicitly stated prerequisites. An initial analysis step can make sense if significant technical information is still missing. After that, work packages and acceptance criteria can be agreed more reliably.
The software architecture audit can be organised as a limited project, as a joint implementation with your team or with subsequent support. Rights of use, access, documentation and responsibilities are clarified in the contract. Ongoing operating hours, response times and external consumption costs are separate agreements. This keeps it clear which services are provided once and which tasks arise regularly after introduction.
Scope limits of the architecture review
The review assesses an agreed section and does not replace a complete security or code review of all components. For the Architecture Assessment, we set out this limit in the quote. Required additional services are included with their business rationale and are not silently assumed. This allows your team to plan suitable internal skills and divide the overall work sensibly between those involved.
