Anexia is the winner of the Primus Award 2025 in the “International Performance” category. The Carinthian Business Award honors companies that are regionally rooted and at the same time globally successful—those that use courage and innovative strength to open up new markets beyond national borders. The Klagenfurt-based technology company impressed the jury with its international successes, its consistent focus on technological independence, and its contribution to Europe's digital sovereignty.
Digital sovereignty as a factor for success
Anexia pursues the vision of a digitally sovereign Europe that acts independently and autonomously. This stance
was particularly evident in 2024: after the NASDAQ 100 company Broadcom announced massive price increases
for core software services, Anexia developed a European open source platform as an alternative in record time.
The award shows that long-term thinking and regional responsibility also pay off internationally. We believe in a Europe that can shape its own digital future. Our technology is developed in Carinthia – and has a global impact. The Primus is a wonderful recognition for the entire team that makes this vision a reality every day.
Globally connected, protected in Europe
With Anexia World Wide Cloud, the company operates a globally independent cloud infrastructure. Over 100 data center locations in 70 countries enable 210,000 customers to process data securely worldwide – in compliance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The cloud and internet service provider serves renowned international customers such as Lufthansa Systems, Western Union, TeamViewer, BMW, Airbnb, and Netflix.
Innovation with responsibility
What Alexander Windbichler describes in his vision is also reflected in the company's practices. Anexia combines technological performance with sustainability and social commitment. Its own hydroelectric and solar power plants cover a large part of its energy needs in Austria, while projects such as “Anexia Drive” and “Anexia Rail” use artificial intelligence for climate-friendly mobility solutions. In addition, the company invests in education and digital participation—for example, with the “ANX.labs” training project for schoolchildren and by supporting open-source communities.
From Carinthia to the world
Since its founding in Klagenfurt in 2006, Anexia has written an impressive success story. Today, the company employs 450 people at locations in Klagenfurt, Vienna, Graz, Karlsruhe, and New York. CEO Alexander Windbichler is on the board of CISPE, the European cloud industry association, and actively contributes to the development of common European cloud standards—as a voice for digital sovereignty, fair competition, and sustainable technology solutions.
With its combination of Austrian innovation and international infrastructure, Anexia demonstrates that economic success and social responsibility can go hand in hand.
