Anexia Rail at the TRIGOS 2026 – Climate Action Through Smart Rail Planning
Anexia brings artificial intelligence to rail planning – and is nominated for the TRIGOS 2026 in the Climate Action category.

Ten days of planning time become ten seconds. With this result, Anexia, the Austrian technology company headquartered in Klagenfurt, has qualified for the TRIGOS 2026 – Austria's best-known award for responsible business practices.
Anexia Rail is a software solution developed by Anexia together with ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) and the University of Klagenfurt that, for the first time, integrates artificial intelligence and mathematical optimization into staff and logistics planning for rail transport. For this project, Anexia has now been nominated in the Climate Action category – both at the national level and in Carinthia.
What Is the TRIGOS?
The TRIGOS is Austria's best-known award for responsible business practices. It recognizes companies that combine environmental and social responsibility with business success. In 2026, the award drew 180 submissions – the strongest result in 13 years. A panel of expert judges selected 19 companies for national-level nomination, and Anexia is among them.
What Does Anexia Rail Actually Do?
Anexia Rail cuts planning time for staff and vehicle rotations in rail operations from ten days to ten seconds. The optimized rotation plans reduce the number of vehicles needed and eliminate empty runs, cutting CO₂ emissions by 15 to 20 percent while lowering operating costs. The system also factors individual employee needs into staff scheduling at the push of a button.
What the TRIGOS Jury Says
In its nomination statement, the TRIGOS jury praised the project's holistic approach:
"Anexia Rail shows how digitalization, the mobility transition, and workforce planning can work together."
Why This Project Fits Anexia
Anexia Rail follows a pattern the company has shown repeatedly: turning a complex technical challenge into an independent, European-built solution – this time not for its own cloud infrastructure, but for an entire industry sector. The approach also helps preserve valuable planning expertise as the rail sector faces an upcoming generational shift in its workforce, and it's transferable to other transportation systems.
Environmental Responsibility at Anexia
Anexia Rail is part of the Anexia Group's broader environmental commitment. Through its own photovoltaic park and two hydroelectric plants, Anexia already generates a portion of the power for its data centers and office locations in Austria in-house. Expanding renewable energy through its own generation is a deliberate business decision – and Anexia Rail now extends that same principle to the efficiency of an entire transportation system.
