Anexia Rail Among Austria's Top Mobility Projects for 2026
Anexia Rail was selected by the VCÖ Mobility Award jury as one of the five best projects in the Digitalization category.

Anexia Rail – the planning system from Carinthia – is among the top five projects in the “Digitalization, Technology, and Automation” category of the VCÖ Austrian Mobility Award 2026.
The competition is known for showcasing, year after year, which concrete solutions are actually changing transportation in Austria – not on paper, but in day-to-day operations.
What Is Anexia Rail?
Anexia Rail is a software solution developed together with ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) and the University of Klagenfurt for staff and logistics planning in rail operations. It combines artificial intelligence with mathematical optimization, cutting planning time for staff and vehicle rotations from ten days to ten seconds. The resulting, more efficient rotation plans reduce the number of vehicles needed and eliminate empty runs, cutting CO₂ emissions by 15 to 20 percent while also lowering operating costs.
Austria's Largest Mobility Competition
The VCÖ Mobility Award is organized by the Austrian Traffic Club (VCÖ). Under this year's motto, "sustainable.efficient.innovative," a panel of expert judges evaluated 388 submitted projects across 13 categories. In each category, the top five entries advanced; the public could also award additional points through online voting.
Awarded Before, With a Project
This isn't Anexia's first success at a VCÖ Mobility Award: in 2022, the company was honored as a flagship project with Anexia Drive at the VCÖ Mobility Award Carinthia. Anexia Drive is a software solution for coordinating micro-transit – demand-based shuttle and call-bus systems designed mainly to bridge the gap between public transit and private cars in rural areas. Anexia Rail is a separate project with a different application: instead of micro-transit in rural regions, it focuses on planning across large-scale rail operations.
