“PR stunt”: Amazon’s new EU cloud meets with harsh criticism in Austria – reported by Der Standard

Der Standard discusses Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) new “European Sovereign Cloud,” which is being presented as a response to European requirements for data protection and digital sovereignty. Alexander Windbichler, CEO of Anexia, is clearly critical of this, emphasizing that control does not come from local staff, but from ownership, software sovereignty, and technical decision-making power. In his view, despite EU operations, Europe remains structurally dependent on its US parent company. He also warns against a development in which European customers fall behind technologically and are exposed to geopolitical risks in the event of an emergency.
