Training with Perspective: Anexia Apprentices Are Reporting

Written on August 12, 2020 by Marie Solle

There are more things that can lead to a successful career than a university degree, e.g. an apprenticeship! Not only Martin Rader who first decided to first do an apprenticeship at Anexia and then to study while working sees it that way, but also our current six apprentices. Here they show why it can be worthy to decide for an apprenticeship even if the number of apprenticeship degrees is declining. Because practice-oriented work, a comfortable environment and a variety of tasks are just some of the many advantages of an apprenticeship. With signing the charter “Wir geben Zukunft“, Anexia also guarantees to provide internship positions for apprentices who do their training in a school. Doing so we want to actively confront the shortage of skilled workers and invested in the future.

In this article, our six apprentices Christina, Philipp, Christian, Marius, Dennis and Marie will tell us what motivated them to choose an apprenticeship and how they are doing so far at Anexia.

How old are you?
I am 20 years old.
What did you do before your apprenticeship? Before my apprenticeship at Anexia I went to a secondary school (HLW) in Spittal an der Drau.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship? I decided to start an apprenticeship because I realized that the school I went to was not the right one for me. Although I had good grades, I wanted to do something that suited me better and was more creative.
How is the relationship to your instructor? I don’t necessarily have only one instructor, because I continuously look into different areas. Nevertheless, I got along very well with everyone and they taught me a lot.
What do you like most about your apprenticeship? Hm, there are many things. But I really like the fact that, as mentioned above, I got was able to work in all the different areas of our Marketing & Communications team. I improved my writing style a lot, developed a certain empathy, did graphics, photography and even was a “programmer” for a month. On the other hand, I really enjoy having such great colleagues who are always happy to help me out. So, if I have to sum it up in one sentence, I would say that I have been learning a lot, that I was able to come out of my shell and that I work in a cool team.
Do you already know what you want to do after your apprenticeship? After my apprenticeship I would like to stay with the company because I think it’s important to gain even more practical experience in my field. Besides, there is also a difference between being an apprentice and having finished your apprenticeship, so I am curious to see what will change for me. I still have to see how things will develop.

Dennis

Name of apprenticeship Information technology with focus on computer science
How old are you? 27 years.
What did you do before your apprenticeship? A lot. I went to HAK (academy of commerce) but dropped out to do an apprenticeship as a metalworking technician, i.e. a locksmith. I worked for about 2 years in a home for handicapped people afterwards and finally ended up at Anexia.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship? With an education and enough initiative to learn new things, you can achieve almost the same as with a university degree. In general, the apprenticeship gave me an even more detailed insight into the broad field of computer science and showed me where my strengths are.
How is the relationship to your instructor? Very good! I appreciate that he always has time when I have a question. When I have simple questions or even if I did not understand something at first sight, he always takes his time for me. Other colleagues have also always stood by my side for questions. In general, the overall relationship between employees at Anexia is very good.
What do you like most about your apprenticeship? I enjoyed vocational school very much. It was a change from the everyday working routine. There you learn new things that you can use back in the office for your daily work. But I was also happy to get back to my normal work afterwards.
Do you already know what you want to do after your apprenticeship? I will continue to stay with Anexia and of course continue to learn more.

How old are you? 21 years.
What did you do before your apprenticeship? I worked as electronics engineer for automation technology.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship? I rather prefer to learn practically than just listening to the topics in theory.
How is the relationship to your instructor? Good, he is always available for questions.
What do you like most about your apprenticeship? The work in the data center in Nuremberg.
Do you already know what you want to do after your apprenticeship? I don’t know yet.

Marius

Marius Tesch

Name of apprenticeship Information technology with focus on systems engineering
How old are you? 27 years.
What did you do before your apprenticeship? I worked as a Supplier Quality Assurance at Flex in Althofen. I also completed my first apprenticeship there as a mechanical engineer. My activities included contact with customers and the continuous development of suppliers.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship? I’ve always been more of a hands-on kind of guy, rather than being stuck behind books. And since I wasn’t satisfied in my old job, after much consideration I decided to start an apprenticeship in that area, which already interested me when I was 15 years old.
How is the relationship to your instructor? The relationship with Valentina (Schindler) is a very good one. I can talk to her about any problem and she always helps me when I have a problem or fail to find a solution. The other colleagues in my department help me, too. I could not wish for a better team!
What do you like most about your apprenticeship? I like the variety and that every day is different from the day before. I also appreciate the daily challenge. And very important: the fun doesn’t come last and we have a lot to laugh about as a team.
Do you already know what you want to do after your apprenticeship? What I would like most is to continue working for Anexia. And then to support the team and the company in the best possible way with the learned knowledge.

How old are you? I am currently 21 years old.
What did you do before your apprenticeship? First, I completed an apprenticeship in retail. Then I went to a vocational school.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship? On the one hand I get a fixed salary, on the other hand for me practical training is much more interesting than studying.
How is the relationship to your instructor? Since my instructor and I are quite the same age, the working atmosphere is relaxed. He teaches me a lot about modern programming.
What do you like most about your apprenticeship? Since I have made my hobby my profession, I can only do it with pleasure. The relaxed atmosphere and the quite free choice on projects also contribute to this. The training salary is of course also nice. 🙂
Do you already know what you want to do after your apprenticeship? I have enough trainings for now. 🙂 After the apprenticeship I want to continue working for Anexia.

Marie

Marie Solle

Name of apprenticeship Media expert with focus on online marketing
How old are you? I am 24 years old.
What did you do before your apprenticeship? After graduating from high school I studied social work. But I stopped this study after 5 semesters, because the social sector is not for me.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship? Thanks to my high school diploma I had the opportunity to shorten the time of my apprenticeship (which takes only 2 years). I didn’t want to study anymore, because it takes longer, and I can’t earn money on the side.
How is the relationship to your instructor? The relationship could not be better! In case of problems I have always someone helping me and the atmosphere in general is a very pleasant one. However, this does not only apply to my trainer, but to my whole team. I felt welcome right from the start and I also notice that I am trusted with my own tasks what I appreciate very much.
What do you like most about your apprenticeship? What I like most (besides my wonderful team) is that I am confronted with many different tasks and therefore learn something new in almost every project. I can use my creativity in my work, which has always been my dream.
Do you already know what you want to do after your apprenticeship? I definitely want to learn more about HR and Employer Branding, train myself and continue working here at Anexia because, as I said, I feel very comfortable here.
